Several months ago i sunk my case 1978 case 1150b track loader in some mud and contaminated the transmission oil. I changed the fluid and filters, but after running for about 10 minutes, the transmission would stop working, the pressure would drop to zero. If i shut the machine off and allow to cool completely (overnight) it would do the same thing over again. The engine doesn't overheat and the temp needle on the converter gage barely moves off cold when this happens. I sent the tractor to the local case dealer who preformed a flow test, and 5 weeks ( and $9,000later),the charging pump was replaced, the torque converter was rebuilt, the low range clutch packs were replaced, the valve body on top of the transmission was rebuilt, as well as the filters changed and transmission flushed. The machine still has exactly the same symptoms symptoms. Because the pressure is so good and the machine runs strong when it is cool, i can't believe the transmissiopn is shot. It just seems that some type of modulator or valve is out of adjustment, but i don't know where to start. the shop manual is no help. anyone have any ideas?

dear Max, I have transmission trouble in my 1150b. When putting in forward low range it is labouring or brakes dragging and this happens intermittently in both forward and reverse. Does not happen always. Filters look clean any other suggestions. REgards Phil

There was a service buletin on this subject if I remember correctly and it was a clogged modulator filter. I remember changing a few of these due to sluggish movement. The filter is located under the elbow on the top, middle location of the transmission control valve. These are fun to get to. I don't believe your dealer put a flow meter on the trans, I bet it was a pressure gauge and he didn't even know how to read that. The service manual shows how to do this process very wel and if you follow the process step by step, you will fix the problem, not replace a bunch of parts. Wow, five weeks, I used to be able to pull out the trans, overhaul, pin the pinion bearings in the case, in one week. What are these dealers doing these days? Sorry to vent, good luck and happy dozing. I look around this weekend and see if I might still have that service buletin.

sounds like max knows his stuff. What could be the problem with my 1150C crawler/loader not having enough hydralic pressure. I have replaced pump, pressure relief valve and rebuild control valves.

is the suction hose feeding the trans pump collapsing? I have seen hoses that will have a flap on the inside suck shut, and they can be tough to find.

As a followup to my own post, i have talked to the dealer and they are truly stumped. Before i go off and drive it through their showroom (It does run strong for 10 minutes, should be enough)i figured i'd put the problem out to see if anyone else had a clue. Two more hints: they did spend a lot of time "shimming" some type of valve in the trans that i understood acted as some type of on/off pressure regulator. I was told that this is what kicked the trans out if the pressure was too low. the other interesting thing is that i just went out and fired it up, put the two rear sticks (the forward/reverse) in forward, but left the two front sticks (hi/low) in neutral. the single hi low stick on the right was placed in low. this set up will show pressure on the gage, but the machine isn't in gear. I put the rpm's to 2000 and let it run for 30 minutes and the pressure remained fine. I even hit the stearing petals a few times, which made the pressure drop slightly, but it always bounced back to green. the converter temp needle never came off the low peg. Anyway, i then put it in gear, ran it back and forth for about 5 minutes, the pressure slowly dropped and she fianally wouldn't move. this thing is driving me crazy..... .any help (even a half assed guess) would be appreciated.....

Take it back to the dealer and tell him to make it right!!! Probably something simple is wrong, those transmisions are not that complex. If I had the dozer in front of me I am sure I could figure out the problem.(Some things can't be done online.Just had a though, seems like heat may be a problem, maybe the trans. cooler is clogged.Just because Case makes/made a good dozer, doesn't mean its dealer network is the best.

I agree with the other post, as soon as you noticed the same problem, and after $9000, I would transport it back to the dealer and insist on them making good on their repair, or at least store it in their way until they hire a mechanic trained well enough to fix or replace the trans.
$9000 wow, how much is a new trans worth?
sorry I haven't been any help.
