I have just bought 19 acres of hilly land and had a crew with a D8 and K-G blade bust and move the large stumps. Now I have about 3000 feet of small windrows. Unfortunately. most of it is stump because when they cut the timber, they dragged most of the tops and brush up to the neighbors. Mine will not burn anytime soon. I will be clearing it for pasture and a homesite in time. I plan to buy either a small loader like a Case 450 or a large skidsteer like an 1845C. I think I need the tracks as I also plan to dig a pond to be fed buy existing springs. Will a large skidsteer be adequate if I take my time, or should I buy a small trackloader? I am in no hurry, I have many years, good Lord willing. I can haul a skidsteer, but not a trackloader and the place is about 2 miles from home. I can also probably do some amount of work/maintenance on a skidsteer. Don't know about a trackloader. If I understand right, I could really get into a big money pit if not careful.

I have an 8N but do not really think it is up to this type of work. He He
Any feedback appreciated as always.

THANKS.
David

I have experience with both machines. (and many others) If you are concerned with a money pit, either one can be one as with anything that is yellow or orange. My suggestion is to hire someone to do the big things because they should have the experience to build tanks, etc. If you want an all around piece of equipment to do chores around the farm, a skid steer with it's many attachment options is hard to beat.

David, where are you located? I have about 2 weeks worth of work left and I will be putting my 450 crawler up for sale. The loader is in great condition with a 90% undercarriage. Within the last year I have packed all the cylinders, rebuilt the injecture pump, rebuilt the bucket valve body, all cylinders for the back hoe plus replaced the backhoe valve body, replaced the hydraulic's pump and replaced the radiator. I have 3 buckets for the hoe. It's a very strong running machine. After using it for 6 years on my small farm it;s getting time to sell it since I have just about completed all my projectes. The 4 in bucket is great for picking up and moving large logs and rocks. So far I have cut out 4 house sites on my farm using both the bucket and back hoe. If interested let me know. All recites for all the work I have done on the machine can be verified. Thanx! let me know. J.

I live in SC. Just inside the SC border off I-85 a few minutes from the Georgia line. I have to work on a budget. Sounds like your machine may bring a nice price. Let me know if you are close and interested in selling.

Thanks,
David
