Case 310G -Lacking Power?

I went and looked at a 310G crawler loader. It looked great, but when driving it, it seemed to be lacking power. According to the owner, it had a 3/4 yard bucket. There was a pile of dirt there and the tractor would run out of power before getting a full bucket of dirt. It wouldn't even spin the tracks. It was like you were running into the pile in too high of a gear. Are these tractors low on power, or was the engine just too worn out? It did smoke a bit, but not too much for a diesel I didn't think. I have not run any dozers and don't really know what to expect, but it just doesn't seem right that I couldn't get a full bucket of dirt. I'd hate to see it trying to dig hard, packed dirt. Anyone got one of these loaders to share their experience with?

Thanks,
John

Don't know if this will help much but my 310 has no trouble spinning the tracks in any gear, but then mine weighs a lot less...no backhoe. Mine did smoke when I got it and I was worried about the condition of the diesel engine. I changed the air filter oil and cleaned the sludge out of the screen and bottom of it and replaced the fuel filters and like magic the black smoke was 90% less. If it has an oil bath air filter and it's plugged it'll rob a lot of power.
I don't think the 310 is underpowered, mine is a dozer and it'll push a lot of dirt

Thanks for the reply Jim. The one I looked at did not have a backhoe, I think you confused me with the other post, but anyways your info was helpful. I think I will take another look at this one for sale.

Sorry about that. I love my little case, it can do a lot of work for the size. And I don't have to worry about clutches freezing up like some green machines do...even if they're yellow
