Wondering how much work is involved in replacing final drive gears on one side along with all related bearings? I know that the sprocket will need to be pressed. Are all bearings replaceable when I remove that side of the drive or is it more involved? Machine runs good, pins and bushings need to be turned and sprockets are at about 50%. Is the machine worth $2500? This includes the gears needed but not the bearings.

Yes Derek it is rather a big job,first off before you can do it you need,blade and push frame out of the way,some good blocks of wood,get the weight of the tracks,split the track,undo the track frame and get it pushed forward to clear the sprocket,take off the hub cap,undo the nut a few turns,give the sprocket a few blows of the 14lb hammer and try to knock it off the taper,if it will not shift rig up the puller and pull it,leave the nut on but loose,hub off undo the castle nut,you push off the outer bearing as you undo the nut,put the nut back on and rig up the puller using the proper sleeve to go against the sprocket hub,pull the sprocket,it will come with a loud bang so make sure the nut is on to catch it,take off the housing cover and hope that the gears are ok,if the pinnion gear has failed and you have a one piece pinnion you will have to remove the steering clutch for that side in order to gain access to the nut that holds the pinnion in place,lift off the bull gear and hub,to get the inner bearing cone out of the housing I used to put a run of weld around the inside of the cone, it shrinks it a bit and it will pop out with a pry bar,well that is everything out,you may not have access to the sprocket puller and if you never used one it may be best to hire a Cat engineer to pull and push for you.

Derek, the final drive is completely rebuildable. If you haven't got any press tools, once you take off the track and push the track frame ahead out of the way, you can take off the outer hub and unbolt the case and lift off the final drive and sprocket in one piece and take it to a dealer for rebuilding and get it back and bolt it back on. You will need to replace the inner hub bearing cup your self. If you take the outer hub assem the dealer can reseal it and replace the outer bearing cup too.Email if you need more info.
