Mike it's the Antique Cat Machinery Owners Club. Type in "ACMOC.org" then go to the board. The guys there have changed lots over and know where you can get parts other than dealers. I assume you are trying to convert a D315 with the starting engine mounted on top of the flywheel housing. I have never seen a special ring gear in the electric start group for the D315/318 engines and have heard guys talk about getting a 24volt starter with a pinion that will run on what is there. Is the starter hole machined on your flywheel housing, it's below where the pinion goes in now and should have a cover with 3 bolts?
Later Bob
