This machine has the roll cage of heavy gage steel. The top at the front has smaller square holes to permit upward vision. Just under the main cage is another panel at the front with a gap between the 2 panels. This other panel has just one larger hole with rounded corners. The hole measures about 9 x 15 and the panel overall is about 15 1/2 x 33. On this machine, the panel has never been welded or fastened in place. On a 743B and on a new 553 that I looked at, a panel that seems identical is on each of them and is welded in place. Seems unlikely that this panel is welded solidly on place on most models and is intentionally loose on the 543. Also seems unlikely that this could have left the factory and been sold if the loose panel is not correct. There are not even bolt holes for fastening the panel in place. Anyone have an explanation? It would be great to have another 543 to inspect for comparison.

To make it clearer, this steel panel is usually welded just under the top of the cage at the front and at the back of the panel. The instrument clusters are on each side just below the front of this steel panel and are attached to the front of this panel. The previous owner just held the whole thing in place with wire along with the instrument clusters. If this is a manufacturing goof on just this one machine, then I plan to weld the panel in place. But how could such a goof get out of the factory and past the dealer? If the panel is supposed to be loose, then why?

I know the panel your talking about but got no good reason why its not welded to the cab 'cause its supposed to be, you will see alot of these machines with the top half of the cab cut off so they can get around in chicken houses to clean them out, mabye someone had done this at some time then changed back to a full cab and never bothered to weld the panel back in????? I dont know but go ahead and weld it in its supposed to be there
