I am thinking about buying a Case 310G Crawler with a loader and ripper. Production of somewhere in the late 60's. It is well used. Number one cylinder has almost no compression, thus a miss when running, other wise everything else works. It looks old and worn. One idler is shot. Asking price is $5000.00. I don't mind fixing the engine if the price is right. What should a case crawler like this be worth?

I thought $5000.00 was too much for a 310G with a broken engine. This is a gas engine. What engine is it and are parts for the engine still easy to get. It I can get this guy down to around 2500 to 3000 I might still try to get it. Thanks for your inputs.

I would not pay $2500 for a machine
as well-worn as you describe. At
least that Case model has some parts
still available. I'm looking at a
TD-340, a good little machine but undercarriage parts are becomming very
difficult to get. I won't pay $2000 for
this International.

I find this thread particularly interesting as I own a T340 dozer and a Case 310 Wheel Loader (orphened sibling to the 310 crawler) . There have been several occasions where I've been looking for 310 wheel loader parts and I end up talking to some guy with a 310 crawler. It seems the 310 crawlers are fairly common in the parts yards (I have yet to find a 310 wheel loader in a parts yard).

As far as parts availability on the T340, I guess I've been lucky. I've not had much need to hunt for T340 parts as my dozer has been quite reliable (although the undercarriage is getting quite tired).
