Dozer all of a sudden making loud noises almost like cogs slipping, but can't see anything wrong on the outside. Will make jerky starts and then stops and then starts again. Same forward and backwards. Don't have mechanic nearby. Any suggestions on what is going on? Major? Barely made it to the barn. Suggestions?

Sounds like ring & pinion gear trouble, you've probably lost a couple teeth on the pinion. I,m not that familiar with a 310G but it's a major job on most. See if there is an inspection cover that will allow you to see inside the bevel gear compartment; if not you can drain it & check for metal pieces. Hope this helps!

Check the driveshaft. Might have torn the splines out of one end or the other.
