Can someone describe how to remove/disassemble the window latch/door latch?? My handle fell off and can hear "things" rattling around inside the latch casing.

Any HELP is appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Tom since no one else is getting into this I will wade into the water causously. Take out any screws that you can see near the handle and have a look. You will likely find a retaining clip that has rusted off or broken. Replace broken parts oil everything and put screws back in.
How hard can it be anyway:<).

Bob;

I have to confess, I wrote the original message while at work and didn't get all the details.

More precisely, the handle was loose. I went to tighten the 2 screws and they didn't tighten. So, I then removed them and to my surprise the screws came out but the nuts, which weren't welded to the inside fell off and are now inside the "case" of the latch mechanism.

What holds the case to the door?? This is what I don't understand. There are about 6 of these silver stud-like fasteners. They have smooth round heads, with no groove for a screwdriver nor any edges to attach a socket. I know how difficult this is because I wish I knew the technical terms for these fasteners and I wish I could send picture but no such luck. I'm sure if you saw them you would recognize them.

It's raining now, so I'll take another look tomorrow and see if I can get a better description.

Anyway, THANKS as always!

Tom

All I can suggest from that is to try and pry on these fasteners a bit and see if they are a drive in type. Don't go at it too hard, if they don't move there must be an other way.
