There all basically good if properly cared for. If its a 1816 or 1816B, you'll need to change the oil at about 25 hour intervals or more often if you expect the engine to last. The Tecumseh engine in these needs to run with a vacuum in the crank case so any leak can be harmful. This unit though has goobs of torque and will counter rotate even though I had heard rumors that it wasn't designed to. The 1816C is the sweety of the bunch in my opinion because of the onan engine. The onan runs much smoother that the previous models, but I would suggest the same oil change interval. The other two had a kit made available to convert to the Onan but the owner had to supply the sledge hammer to open the area up a little between the loader frame uprights inorder to squeeze the onan in. Working on all three models were about the same, working from the back was fairly easy when compared to working on your head when working in the front on the drive train. That's about all I can remember on these for now. Good luck.

Max,
We went ahead a bought the machine, it's a 1816B. It's in fairly good shape. The previous owner replaced the tecumseh with a 16 hp Kohler. Any idea how old the machine is or what it's capacities are?

Thanks
Tim

I think the B was introduced around 78 and lasted till around 81 when it was replace by the C model. For best all around performance though, the high idle no load speed should be 3750 rpm, this will mean changing the oil more often. As far as capacities I not sure which bucket you have or wheel and tire combo so here are the other capacities: Gas tank cap.....8.5 gal Hyd tank cap.....15 us qts with filter chg 14 us qts w/o filter hyd sys cap .....28 us qts hyd oil type....10w40 engine oil hyd sys output...8.0 gpm hyd releif press.1150 psi no circuit releifs hydrostat..... .12.9 gpm @2000 psi 3575 eng rpm case press .....15 psi max charge pump releif valve setting 85-165 psi minimum chg press under load 85 psi
Now the fun facts, loader cycle times, Raise...8.0 seconds dump....2.4 seconds lower...3.7 seconds
Hope this helps, I got the info out of my old spec book, some things are hard to part with.
