On my Case 450 standard dozer first start of the day I have no Torque converter or Transmission oil pressure. The tractor won't respond to the shuttle lever or track speed levers. It won't go. After half a minute to two minutes both oil pressure gauges show pressure like someone turned on a switch and everything works fine. The problem is intermittent and has happend probably one out of ten morning starts. I would sure appreciate advice on trouble shooting my problem.
Thanks Ray

Hello Ray,
I agree what the other guys have said...air can be a big problem. Another place to look are the suction hoses between the pump, screen, and even back to the bottom of the transmission. If you have any that seep oil, it will definitely suck air there. Or sometimes, they will suck air even if they don't leak any oil. Sometime when its not picking up prime, get out your oilcan and start squirting all of your suction hoses, and the screen housing joint that Butch talked about. If you suddenly see the oil you're squirting disappear, you've found a problem. Doubleclamping the hoses sometimes works.
If you do have to replace those hoses, make sure that you get 100R3, which is a double cotton or synthetic braid, no wire. Many places will try to sell you 100R4, which has a wire helix. Not only is this a bear to install, its even worse to try to get sealed on those hose barbs.
If you have any problem getting the right hose, or ever need a charge pump, drop me a line. Hope this helps, Dale

Hey Ray, I would replace transmission filter and fluid, remove and clean suction strainer filter and while your down there check all your suction lines going to the charge pump make sure everything is tight (hose clamps, fittings, etc.) sounds like its sucking air for a bit before it picks up fluid.

Hello gatractorman,

I have a Case 750 D crawler and am now experiencing the same problem with air getting into system and losing my prime in the charging pump. The trans filter is located under the seat but where is the suction strainer filter that you said should be cleaned?

thanks,
paul

Hey Paul, the strainer filter is located in the line that supplies oil from the transmission to the charge pump may have to remove belly pan to see it. Good Luck
