Case 450 crawler choking out... WHY?

O.K. I'm about to pull my hair out. The machine runs very strong for about 30 seconds. Then it will only run on starter fluid after that. I've drained and cleaned the tank. Also have replaced the fuel lines and connections. New filters - the loader is fitted with the canister type, not the screw on type. The problem happened while working a brush pile down into a draw. It stalled on the downward grade. I found a red cedar root jammed up against the fuel lines between the engine and the tank. That is why I felt the engine was getting air and choking out. So - I replaced the fuel lines. I put the new filters on at the same time. After the machine runs for 30 seconds and chokes out I find that the secondary fuel filter is only about 1/2 full. It takes forever to bleed it back. Could the problem be in the canister style fuel filter system? Would it help to change out the filter system and put in the newer type screw on units? The crawler is on level ground now. With 15 gal. of diesel in the tank it still takes hours to bleed the system back down enough to start it again. Man, I could use some solid advice on this.

I tried to send an answer last night but the system wouldn't take it so here goes another try. Several years back I was working on an 850B with the same symptons. i did the usual thing in that checked the fuel lines, cleaned the fuel tank, replaced the fuel filters, checked the lift pump check valve and fuel pump. The unit still kept stalling after thirty minutes. Then one time I got lucky and found the problem, someone had out a black rubber glove in the fuel tank. I found this after completely removing the fuel tank from the crawler(did I mention I was getting desparate to fix this, the store I worked at didn't charge for repeat calls if they weren't fixed the first time. That black rubber glove had evaded all of my prior inspection attempts with a flashlight but when I turned the tank upside down to rinse out, parts started popping out. Good luck and hope you get back to happy dozing soon.

I've got the same machine and here's what I would do to check fuel supply. Dissconnect the fuel inlet and connect to a siphon primed 3/8" rubber line inserted into a fuel filled jerry can. If it starts and runs easily you have air leaks in your fuel lines.

You mite want to ck. the fuel pump (not the injector pump) if the line was broken you may have got dirt or something in it. there are tiny ck. valves in the pump and if they have stuf in them they cant close and it wont pump

It sounds like you sucking air try a low pressure test (3-5 Lbs) and look for leaks or bubbles
