My T6 has a cracked spoke and I'm wondering if the sprocket is steel and can it be welded? The crack looks like it has been there for many years so I don't think the sprocket will break.

Drill a small hole at end of crack to prevent crack from spreading.
Grind a nice groove about 3/16 to 1/4" wide on both sides of crack.
Pre-heat before welding about 350 to 600 degrees.
Weld with a good dry rod, 7018 is a good mild steel rod and should do a good job!
Make a root pass with a 3/16 rod chip slag very well wire brush making sure all slag is out then weld a cover pass with a 1/4" rod.
Then grind weld enough that weld is smooth but do not remove too much of the material just smooth it out some.
After you finish reheat area around weld wrap it in rock wool or something that will hold in heat an let it cool slowly to stress relive it.
Pre-heating is very important in preventing crystalization at the edge's of weld and causing cracks, also make sure it is clean and if you make more than one pass as with a root and cover pass make sure you clean the slag out very good.
This will give you a good strong weld that will last under the abuse the sprocket will dish out.
Good luck hope this helps.

2 years ago I welded a new sprocket on my IH T9 crawler. I had to cut the old teeth of and line it up and weld the spokes. It took me a day and a half to do but it worked. V it out and use 7018 rod.

Might want to "Vee" it out with an Air arc or a grinder to get a better repair.
Also might pay to pre heat the spot before welding, too. Not real hot, just enough the drive out any moisture and give the weld a chance to get a good start.

You should have no problem V it out and weld it with 7018 rod.
