I have about 25 to 30 acres of land to be cleared, I don't know wether to get an older D8 or TD25 cat and clear the land my self or contract it out, Its not to hard to find an older D8 for $10000 around these parts, We already own a D4D logging cat, way to small to do any seriuos land clearing. Or maybe an older exavator might do for digging out stumps then piling with the D4, Not realy sure what to do, And suggestions???

Hi, I had some land cleared this summer with a IH TD 7. Didn't get to watch him work but he said he had no trouble and some of my trees ran 12-14 inches in dia. he cleared a road averaging 12 ft. wide and about 300 ft. long in about 6 hours and left no stump holes. so your dozer size is definitely big enough you have weigh price and time. good luck! I have a question for you though, I have a IH 500 skidder made in Canada, know any one up there with some spare parts? ( I hope )

I don't know of any one off hand with parts for an IH skidder, But I will check around for ya, They are realy rare around these parts, We do a lot of logging in this area and If it dosen't say cat or jd they don't useum.

Actualy now that I think of it there's an Ih/ dresser dealer here, I will get you there details.

What do you use the skidder for.

dale,

try coastal Pacific tractor's web page, an Ih/dresser dealer.
www.cpecanada.com

and try www.supplyline.com

just a few places to search for Ih skidder parts. Also do a search for forestry equipment in Quebec. There is a company that sells the other brands of skidders including IH. The name slips my mind as well. If I remember I will let you know.

Hi, CC, sounds like your only problem might be time. You already know the equipment, and how to operate it, just a matter of deciding what else to use the big iron for. As for stump removal, a track hoe is nice but a TD25 will lift out anything a 'hoe will. Might concider a rake for piling, and re-piling after burning. I suppose it's kinda obvious which make I prefer..... just looking at ease of repair, and if of the same vintage you will have more power in the IH. Hope my ramblings have been of some help, G.

My vote goes for paying someone to clear the land for you. Unless you know the machine real good, an old dozer of any kind can be a costly experance. I have been there, I have owned several. Good luck, Rudy
