I've always wanted a dozer! Need to level 4 acres of slightly sloped land in PA. Found a Case 320 gas dozer engine was rebuilt 2 years ago and sounds strong! Problem is I know nothing about tracks! What do I need to check for before I buy this? HELP!!!! He wants $3000 for the dozer.
Any pointers will be appreciated!! Thanks!!!

Track nut: Check the undercarrage as that offten is the most expensive regular item to fix. The drive wheel should NOT have "pointed" teeth as that means they have been worn out. The PINS and Bushings are next to wear through. Look close. Have someone who knows how to check it tell you what to look for. Then test drive. It may be another $3000 for undercarrage repairs?? Not trying to scare you but rather force you to find out how to check the driveline a little better ...befor buying. Hope the rest is OK too..good luck. harvey

Well you cant go wrong at that price. The upper part is just a tractor, different but a tractor. The lower part has tracks and drive sprockets. Look for obvious faults- missing or cracked teeth on the drive sprockets. Check the track chain area that is directly engaged by the sprockets. Wear, chipping, cracking, metal flow are all signs of heavy use. Drive tests should include left and right turns with power. Forward and reverse, empty and loaded. Oil analysis should be a part of all tractor tests. obvious leaks, drips, abraided hoses, also show hydr. care and condition. It sounds like you have seen it and like it, good luck...Andy

Thanks ANDY!
Went tonight to look at the case 320 dozer. Raining like crazy didn't get to drive dozer. It is a 1958, and blade is hydralic angle & power up. Power down don't work, maybe bad spool in control?

Where do you get a service manual for this little beast? I've looked all over the net can't find site with CASE 320 CRAWLER MANUAL. Any Idea's where ?

Thanks again for the help!!
