Here are a couple of links to try. >Link

Not>Link too hard to do. I got a used one from an 85 caprice for the 800 and cut part of the caprice extention bracket to fit the engine block mount. I think North M's idea is good too. If you don't have an alternator already I'd look for a 1975 chevy pickup alt. at AUtozone. one with a lifetime warrenty is about $38 w/exchange. there may be higher amp versions available for say a medium duty GM truck but you'll pay more and may have to go to NAPA for that. Salvage yards want $40 or more for a used one with 30day warrenty. good luck.

I just used a GM alternator , one wire , hookup and followed the plans other people have put on this site in the articles. Works well for me and cheaper than overhauling a generator. I also put an alternator on my Case D.

I have a 930 LP. The mounting is pretty easy to fix actually. I used the same mount by taking part of it to a machine shop and having it cut to length and re threaded. Been so long don't remember exactly without going out and looking at mine. If you do a search on this site you should find plenty posts and pictures showing the altanator and hookup. I also had to take the pulley off the altanator I bought and install the double belt pulley from the generator. Again no problem. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Do you remember if the altenator had to be a specific size or amp rating?

Just about ANY alternator will put out more current than the original generator.

This one is a 10SI Delco, about 65 to 75 Amps.

One "generic" rebuilder's industry # is 7127.

The diode is NOT necessary if the tractor has an "idiot" light. Simply, connect the wire directly to the idiot light wire without the diode. The idiot light WILL work to let you know the alternator is charging.

Thanks to all of your input and advice...now I know pretty well what I need to do.

Roger, regarding the "idiot" light, since the generator has not worked on this tractor and ran off the battery i never paid any attention to whether it had a light or not...but i guess it would be easy enough to add a gauge to the panel...there are bout three knock outs available on panel..any tips on wiring that up?

if you look at the picture at the bottom of the web page I listed in my reply yesterday it shows how to hook the "idiot" light up. On my 800 the "indicator (idiot) light" wire was the only one I had to run. I picked up a light at NAPA (sorry don't have the Part#). On some Case dashes there are small round knockouts already there (sides for dash lights) that are about the right size for the light.
