I've noticed everytime there is a debate comparing IH to another tractor its seems to always be compared to a JD. Here's a bit of a different story. My Dad farming in the mid 60's always used a W-9 for plowing. He only had a 3 bottom, 16 in plow so it wasn't much of an effort for the W-9. One day the local Allis Chalmers dealer brought in a D-15 as a demonstrator and the local Minny Mo dealer brought in I think it was a Four star or a Jet star (not exactly sure of the model name but it was a 50 horsepower tractor)to try for a month. Both tractors had enough horsepower for the 3 bottom plow but neither had the traction to pull it in sod - even with the tires loaded and wheel weights. After a month of light duty, both tractors went back to the dealer and the W-9 went back to plowing. For the record, the same model Minny couldn't out pull our neighbors JD-70 either.
