Synthetic Oil

I'm new to this board and old tractors. So this has probably been covered, but does anyone have an opinion on using synthetic oil in old tractor engines? I also have 3 different openings for hydrolic fluid or gearcase oil on my '62 D15. I was told to drain all of them and run solvent for 15 minutes or so and replace with hydrolic fluid. This tractor has been sitting in the barn for 3 years. It's running but really hasn't been run hard for 15 years. Step up and give me your 2 cents worth.
