We were doing well until I took the foal halter off. I guess we didn't get the repititions needed by the time he was six months. He is friendly, follows me all over, and wants to be petted and brushed. I can pick up all four feet and clean them. He just doesn't want that halter! 10-4 on that right/left side split. I've had luck with "pushing" horses (chasing at a walk) and then stopping and walking away. They want to know why you're not interested anymore. It is time to decide if he's worth leaving a stud. His breeding is very good, grandson to Secretariat on his sire's side, and stakes winners and stake winner producing mares on his dam's side. His mama had 4 starts, 1 win, 1 second as a 2 and 3 year old. I do believe he'll end up a gelding at this time. We use halters with leather headpieces, or breakway halters when they're turned out in a halter. We use cotton lead ropes when the halter is all nylon, the lead rope gives way before the halter.
