My wife & I have recently retired and have purchased a farm in the area of east central Kansas. We haven’t moved there yet but will soon. I’m asking your advice. The farm is 160 acres of which 120 are tillable with the balance in pasture & yard with some out buildings. I have purchased the following equipment to farm it. 8n tractor because my neighbor told me they are really good so he sold me his for only 4300 dollars. I’d like to run it on bio-diesel to be environmentally friendly. I’ve also purchased a 4-16 plow, a 15 foot bush cutter and 10ft harrow disk for the tractor. I’m planning to raise lima beans, sugar cane and pigmy goats. A John Deere 9650 combine for the lima beans and the sugar cane. Is sugar cane difficult to combine? One of my new neighbors said it is? The tractor does need some work because I think I ran it out of oil just running around the yard. Where do you check the oil on these things and can I use the same oil I use in my (2)Escalades. I also need advice on a trailer for the goats and crops to pull behind the Escalade as I will have to pick them up in Kansas City. I also need to know what to wear when farming. I don’t want to look dumb but, fit in. Thanks for your assistance. Californian to be farmer.
