Thanks John for the advice of a week ago on selecting a gear for a tractor pull. Although I wasn't able to make it, here is the story as told to me by the guy in the drivers seat----------- "Tractor pull was fun - I was lucky and got them to pick me for 2 practice runs. Those practice runs helped - did those in 2nd gear and think I did better than the real run that I did in 1st. Came in the expected 6th out of 6 :-). Clearly the other competitors had tuned their engines. I think we could have do better with just a little tweaking/tuning of the engine, did not run out of traction, ran out of power - but regardless it was a fun time ! Don't know if you heard - I jerked the chain on the first few runs (no supposed to do that) and bent the clovis. Tim brought me another one for the final pull." ---------- My dad told me that they didn't have a class for his tractor, so he was put into a modified event. Anyways, he had a blast. The clevis almost looked like a straight rod with 2 loops, lol. The U he is driving was bought by my brother from his landlord (now deceased) a few years ago. He didn't want to see such a nice tractor (the condition it's in is the condition he bought it in) go to some tractor jockey. Bill (the landlord) loved that tractor and took great care of it. I also bought a tractor from him (a Farmall M) except he hated that one. Anything he hated got oil changes regular, like everything else, except they would get the used oil from something he loved. So perhaps, my M has a little Minneapolis-Moline in it as well. Here is a picture for your enjoyment.
