My father-in-laws VAC wasn't charging and it turned out that the wiring was just so bad that it needed replaced! Patched up the wiring and that took care of it! He had been charging the battery and running untill it went dead for years before I looked at it for him! So frist check your wiring out good! If it's ok! Next check the voltage regulator, contacts could be burnt up or stuck! Local Auto parts shop can test these for you! I use a store called Auotzone here in Ohio, Next check brushes on generator, you can remove the cover on the end of generator and see the brushes, check to see if there worn out or stuck also check the commutator they ride on for burnt marks, If it's burnt thats a bad thing! if it's real bad might mean it needs rebuilt. The Auto Parts store may be able to test the generator for you also to see if it's charging? They do this for free around here! If it come's down to the generator is bad look for a auto electric repair shop that can rebuild it for you! most times they can rebuild them cheaper than buying a replacment one! Hope this helps you out some! Bob
