All 9N and 2N Ford serial numbers start "9N". There should be no dashes in the serial number. Because the numbers are hand-stamped, some of them are so lightly struck that they are very hard to read. Also, often they are stamped unevenly with some numbers higher or lower than the rest. The serial number should have a star before and after the numbers, ie *9N15545*. The first star may only be partially visible and may look like a one. That dash could be the top of another 5 or the bottom of a 2. You might try rubbing some chalk into the number and shining a flashlight on the numbers at an angle to see them better. To determine year from serial number, visit the link below.
