When you say "pop" from the mag, do you mean the impulse coupling (does it have one? is not working? If so, that would reduce the spark energy at hand cranking speeds to a low level. Are the plugs getting wet - if not, it is perhaps a fuel problem. Try a little starting fluid, but beware of kickback! A pull is often the easiest way to get them going after a rebuild.
