Ray a friend of mine just rebuilt the same engine he is here with me now and he said you should make sure that the distributer is setup with all timing marks then turn distributer left to right a little at a time to see if the engine will run longer. P.S. was wondering if you have a service or parts manual for a 1961 IH 340 utility or know someone or a website that i could get it from
