Had it, as in "occupied Canada" - not likely. More like tried to take it, but failed. By congressional decree the US tried to "free" colonial subjects from "tyrany" and successfully "captured a couple of out-of-the-way forts" in 1812 then surrendered them (one without as much as a shot fired). Since British forces were busy dealing with Nepolian, our "Canadian" ancestors can easily take credit for marching on the American capital and torching the president's house ("white-washed" afterward to cover it's charred exterior walls). It seems that those colonial "subjects" didn't want to be "freed", especially the "British Empire Loyalists" who's new found freedom would have included a fair trial followed by a summary execution, had the invasion been succesful.
