I lost the use of my power steering on my 1957 Super 55. I found that the generator shaft that has a gear machined to operate the power steering pump has broken off. I contacted several machine shops but they said it would be an expensive repair and suggested that I find a replacement. Chevrolet has used this type of stup on their passenger cars but they are 1-1/4" longer than what is on the Oliver due to the oil filter location is right behind the power steering pump resorvior. I found that Oliver had put out a notice to all owners of this application that the releif valve in the pump is set too high and that shims were needed to correct this problem. I have installed the shims but now need armature. Does anyone have an old generator like this that they would like to sell?
