Dick, I have a 1974 Ford 2000 gas tractor. With the transmission in neutal, the PTO engaged, and with the clutch engaged, that is, without pressing down on the clutch pedal, the PTO shaft should be spinning. That is what live PTO is all about. I don't know about other years of the Ford 2000, but mine definitely has live PTO. By the way, the PTO shaft is easily removed from the back of my tractor. If yours is also, you might remove the shaft and see if the drive mechanism inside the transmission is operating properly. Good luck, Tom
