Looking at the title of your post ("heater UPDATE") I GUESSED that you had made a previous post about this, but if you did I can't find it and this post certainly doesn't divulge any details about exactly how your heater is acting, or what make and model you are dealing with!
I am familiar, in general, with the type of heater you are talking about, though.
Do you have an Owner's Manual, typically they have good troubleshooting info, even a "flow chart" and the electronic control board typically flashes codes identifying what's wrong, with an interpretation of the codes in the manual.
