Things are just so complicated these days that you can't test everything. Even if it is something that's tested, and it passes, there's nothing saying it won't fail the second the customer takes it out of the box and powers it up.
If people were satisfied with '57 Chevys and AM radios being the pinnacle of technology, everything would be 100% perfect out of the box. But we want our TV, our cell phone, our Internet, our comfy quiet fancy car with all the bells and whistles... and we want it CHEAP! You can't have that without added complexity. Added complexity makes more failure points. More failure points can only mean more failures. Cheap leaves less on the bone to test the product before sending it out.
The name of the game is take it back, and get another one. It will probably be ok. Yes it's another trip to the store, but nobody forced you to buy it in the first place. You *WANTED* it, so you shoulder some of the responsibility.
