How do you guys go about keeping fuel system parts on the shelf so they don't deteriorate?
I bought a new mechanical pump for the old truck because the old one was leaking. It turns out that it had a bad fitting. The new one is on the truck but I want to shelve the old one as a backup. Should I put motor oil in the inlet and then operate it to get everything oily? Should I use MMO? I will plug the inlet and outlet, but want to see if I can keep the diaphragm from drying out if possible. Come to think of it, I have fogging oil I use on the smaller engines each fall - what about that?
I should really pull the carb off of my parts tractor and do the same thing, I guess. 20 years ago I wouldn't have thought about it, but this gas seems to be hard on things.
