I watch tradesmen work and talk/text (try to) lots! Some of the contractor's crack down, and they should, for abused cell phone use while at work.
I took two of them out to lunch last week, before I sat down (I was last) one of them was on his smart phone. I told him his phone/table manners were as bad as my teenagers. He said he was on his Facebook page updating his wallpaper.... he's 37 yrs old, married w/3 kids.
It's a bad thing going on...
I watched from my office window, a scaffolding company crew remove plasterers staging from the building we're building. Cell phone in hand 90% of the time. He was 18, I asked. I told him that he should put the phone in his pocket and use both hands. He told me that he didn't want to miss any calls. I explained the pitfalls of it all, he shrugged his shoulders. His foreman and were taking about it a week ago. The had told the kid to leave the phone in his car or lunchbox, or to duct tape it to his head.
Looks like the Dutchman will have to become Smart phone savvy to keep up! Dutchman, do you "Twitter"? :?
