Working on my 460 governor which somehow failed to function right at the end of last season's deep garden tillage. We had nearly no snow in SE michigan last winter so I never got it repaired...
I think the problem is a sleeve which guides the throttle control rod. I can see the sleeve is visibly misaligned with the shaft which goes thru it.
However as a precaution I removed the governor just to check. Spinning the gear up by hand from a dead stop I get a little metallic clunk clunk clunk inside then it disappears and runs smoothly, I can feel the reaction on the lever. Still don't like the clunking inside at low speeds though.
So my question is: how difficult is the governor repair/rebuild? I'm fairly experienced in machine shop stuff, have arbor presses etc.
