I have 2 fine IH 140's, 1968 & 1974. Both have 12V neg Grnd, distributors, and Alt/Volt Reg's. I would like to upgrade to alternators and electronic ignitions. What is the best way, best parts, etc. Comments as to whether this is a good idea or not are also welcomed. I have been unable to keep the generators charging (even after rebuild) for more than about a summer and am tired of dragging the charger out every couple months. The distributor and points on the '74 model need to be cleaned and reset evry few weeks or it starts missing and backfiring after running it under load for a while. The dist cap doesn't seem to fit tight enough to keep out moisture from rain etc. Hopefully the upgrades above will cure these headaches. Am I headed in the right direction?
