Made an initial setting on the valves, started the engine and let it warm up real good, then shut it off, removed the valve cover, and began adjusting the valves. Got everything right on factory specs. Let it warm up good, took it for a drive, and did not like the way it ran. Did it all over again, still didn't like the way it ran. Shut it off and walked away. The next day I removed the valve cover, set the valves at .020" with the engine cold, buttoned it up and drove it again. It worked. The valve cover has not been off since.
