Mark: I don't know about the original equipment. I'd be awfully surprised if you couldn't find a tach with the cable match up, You could then check your pto speeds with a shaft metering gauge and put your own marks on the tach face, for the speeds you need. I baled for years with 300 and no tach. Even my 560 the rpm gauge quite when the tractor was less than 5 years old. The hour meter continued to work and I never did replace the tach. You can come awwfully close on a baler checking out plunger strokes per min. and marking a spot on your throttle lever. I baled 35,000 bales per year with nothing more than that. The first tach I ever had that was anywhere near reliable was on the 656. I think water used to get in the early ones and rusted them.
