Hey Jim, The rope trick! I learned of it from David Saville on Sept 24th post. Remove spark plug and lower piston. Insert sufficient length of soft rope to fill cylinder and turn crank to apply motive force to the head of a stuck valve. Drive it down with brass drift, and push it back up with piston and rope... eventually it will give in. Mine was particularly stubborn, but it did eventually move. It took the combined advice of about four or five knowledgable folks, with a few varriations to fit my situation, but it worked, and I didn't have to take the head off. I replaced the rope to use it to hold the head of the valve firmly against the seat so I could easily reinstall the spring and keepers. Once reassembled, I removed the rope etc. I did note a possible varriable to consider. A loop of the rope came in between the valve head and the seat, making it impossible to completely force the valve closed... kind of like sticking your foot in the door. I considered this as I worked on it, but it was a non issue untill I got the stem completely free, and it still wouldn't close. Once I removed the rope, the valve seated properly. I just used it once again to hold the valve up instead of shop air. Lots of good stuff out here, thanks again! Oh, and thanks Nebraska Cowman, for clearing up my governer issue. Dave in WA
