I work at a farm equipment dealer in MN and with our shop rate that would be over 6 hrs. Now I think also that the quote they gave was a little high. Were they inclkuding in the 400$ the parts also? I would say that in 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hrs you should be able to get one cylinder done. I would not buy a replacement cylinder unless it is a C-IH replacement. There are dozens of ways that cylinders are assembled and so for me to try to help you get it apart is hard unless you can give me some details as to the end with the rod coming through it. Is there a big nut or a snap ring or a rubber plug on the side of the barrel just below the end? See what you find but the bottom line is that the dealer should be able to rebiuld one for less that $400. Matt
