Uhmmm...my tractor just came alive!

The hydraulics that is. I've been using my 'H' with it's bucket for months now and always assumed that it did not have live hydraulics. If I wanted to raise the bucket I had to put it in neutral and let out the clutch. Today as I was carrying a load in the bucket it started going up. I played around with it to see if I was imaginging things and sure enough it kept working 'live'. What happened?
