(Follow up to "'Nuther Farmall Newbie ") According to the serial number, my recent purchase is a 1947 Farmall A. The guy I bought it from says the previous owner put an engine in it from a Farmall 140, which I gather from my research should be a C123 engine. The date cast in the block is 1*30*H, which I take to mean Jan 30, 1962. Can anyone confirm my interpretation? The other number cast in the engine block reads 373125R1. Is this a significant number and if so what does it mean. Do I need that number to buy a tune up kit (which it definitely needs) or other electrical parts for the engine? Does anyone have an electrical schematic for this engine (coil ignition)? The wiring is very bad having loose, corroded, painted over connections and frayed wires. In rewiring, should I try to buy a wiring harness (are they even available?), or just run individual wires and bundle them neatly myself? Not that I want to deviate from the original design of the tractor, but given the engine that's in it, I am not going to worry about the purity of its "restoration". I bought this tractor to be used as a working tractor, first and foremost. Lastly, what is the best service manual(s) that I can get for this tractor / engine combo? Anybody have specific recommendations? Thanks

At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p
