Bought an M Farmall recently, has a leaky seal on the right rear axle housing. I pulled the end plate that holds the seal to have a look (with wheel and everything in place) and noticed what looks like a _crack_ in the axle. It is right where the axle comes out of the end plate (when the end plate is in place)and at first I thought it was a small scratch but then I noticed that it went down into the keyway on the axle. The crack goes not quite half way around and appears to have been there a while. I've had the M about a month and haven't worked it much, certainly nothing so traumatic as to crack an axle. Has anyone else had experience with this problem? Any idea what could cause this? A flaw in the steel perhaps? When I've seen shafts fail from torque they usually have a bit of a spiral where they tear. This crack is straight and parallel with the wheel. Obviously I plan to do something about before it sits down in a field somewhere. Anyone have a spare axle or suggestion where to get one?
