Ever since I got Mr. Haney, the H, his temperature gauge hasn't been working - the needle never moved. I finally got around to picking up a new one and making time to put it in. I figured to go ahead and put in fresh coolant while I was at it, so when I got down to the shed I started him up to get it stirred up and took the cap off to watch. Sure enough, there's a strong flow of coolant coming into the radiator and circulating around. After I watched it for a minute or two the dim little light came on in my head. I went ahead and changed the guage - had one, might as well use it - and the coolant. Put a g'bag over the grill and in a few minutes the needle started going up. The new thermostat came Friday; this time I'll catch the antifreeze to re-use.
