I recently purchased an 856 and I believe that I am the 3rd owner. This one is turbo-ed and has the factory stickers. I grew up running 856's and my father and I have never seen one with a turbo. I have talked with several local mechanics and a dealer that sold these tractors new, and they never remember this as an option. I recently had the hoods repainted and the IH painter said that the stickers have been on the tractor since it was new. The second owner insists that the tractor came from the factory turbo charged and he personally new the original buyer. He purchased it in 1975 from the original owner. I have the original manual and it does not list the turbo option. Unfortunately the original dealer is long gone. I did hear a story though, that the dealer who also farmed, liked to order a "special demo" tractor from IH and use it on his farm for a year to demo it and then sell it. Does anyone have any info on a turbo'ed 856? This tractor has 2300 original hours on it and I would like to document that it was, in fact, an IH option on these tractors. I would appreciate any info that you could give me. Also, I recently put a clutch in and I believe it was the factory one still in there. I ordered a stock 4-pad 856 clutch and low and behold it was wrong. The tractor had a larger 6-pad clutch that was listed as a 1256 clutch. Thank you.
