I am at the final stages of prep before I paint. I am cleaning parts but I can't fins a rag or cloth that doesn't leave lent or fabric on the part. I could use a tack cloth, but it just puts wax back on the part.

What have you guys found that works good? Much appreciated.

like bob said, use compressed air. for cast parts, i blow them off good, then load wax and grease remover in the paint gun and use that as a final wash before painting.

I get all my rags (pre-worn tee shirts) from the local thrift shop. It's only $2.00 for a trash bag full of recently laundered tee shirts. They are really good for paint prep and/or general shop cleaning. And of course if you're really hard up for something to wear, just pull a shirt out of the bag.

Tack cloths are designed to pick up lint, etc. They feel sticky but do not put wax on the part. You can blow them off with compressed air, as stated, if you have clean enviornment. Otherwise you will stir up more dust and lint. I may use compressed air, but it is followed with a tack cloth.

There's a proper and improper way to use a tack rag.The proper way is to completely unfold it to it's largest size and then lay all 4 corner points into the center and then gently fold the square that remains into about a 6" square leaving it "fluffed up" as much as you can and just "float" it across the panel or part. If you are getting deposits on the part then you are not unfolding it or you are applying too much pressure to it. Ostritch feathers work even better if you have access to some. They have a natural static charge that attracts dust/lint etc and picks it right off. Also might try wetting down the floor and hanging a couple large plastic garbage bags near by when you blow off the lint as they will attract dust and lint and hang on to it.

Thanks for the info guys. A combination of compressed air and tack cloth seem to be working best for me.
