Hydraulic lift judder on TEF

Hi, wonder if you can help. I have had a 1953 TEF for a year. Ive had a problem where when the hydraulics lift (either my 4ft topper or my transport box) they get about 75% lifted and the the hydraulics judder quite extensively, its a bit like sitting on a bucking bronco.
I was kind living with this but was topping the other day and the hydraulics just lifted the topper up without me moving the lever, in fact the lever was pretty much all the way down.
Not clever with the PTO Turning !!!

Anyway managed to disengage the PTO so no damage but the topper stayed in the air and i couldnt get it down, I stopped the tractor and eventually it did drop down after about 15 mins.

Started her up again and all seemed fine, still had the judder but the hydraulics didnt lift on their own again

As its the winter i think id had better try and fix the problems

Any advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated

thanks Neil

further to my request sbove it does actually now look like the lift arms are stuck in a position about 30% lifted.

I can move them up easily by hand but they wont move down even if i stand on them

I read the other post first....the problem will be that the Control Valve has stuck for one reason or another and should be fairly simple to free-off. The problem you have of the Hydraulics jumping like that(a bit more than a judder I think), is possibly due to a lot of free play in the Draft Control Spring, as you don't tell us very much I can't say any more until you tell us more. As a temporary measure if you move the Control Lever forward a little, the jumping may stop. If you remove the left side round port cover below the seat, you will see the Control Fork hanging from the top, using a Long screwdriver or similar and the Pump running, move the Control Fork backwards and forwards a few times until it moves freely. If you want me to send you some written info about all this that you can check with the tractor, just email me and I will send it out to you...John.. [email protected]

Neil, have you had the top cover off to see how much sludge is around the hyd. pump ? I am going through the same thing rite now with my TO20 . I found that there was all kinds of shi, sludge in and around my hyd. pump. Mine was going up ok but would not go down fast at all. 20-25 min from top to bottom. I found after i cleaned out the case that the return side of the pump was plugged. MORE INVOLVED. Took the pump out and cleaned it to find all full of hard sludge. All most like brown tar. Works like a brand new one now. Any questions feel free to email me. Mark
