The Other Color Green | When I was little I was influenced by some bad people who taught me that John Deere was the only good brand of farm equipment. As I got older though my dad was able to get me hooked on the other color green. The first tractor he got me was an Oliver 105 garden tractor when I was around 4, the when I was 8 he bought me my Baby Doll a 1950 Oliver 66 wide front. That tractor sold me and i'll never let it go. Now that im old enough I work on local farms and I have driven many different brands including Farmall, John Deere, Minnieapolis Moline, and Allis Chalmers, and the Only one that has ever come close to the Olivers in my book would be Farmall, and 2 summers ago I bought a Farmall H with my own money, but my 66 is still my baby. I have put alot of hours on that tractor mostly doing plow days and raking hay. That tractor and a 2-14 Oliver model 100 plowmaster is the perfect setup, I can run a 9 hour day 7 inches deep in 3rd gear on one tank of fuel, and thats in the hardest hardpan I have ever seen. Then to make things better I put it on the Dyno at the HPOCA show in Lafyett last summer and found out that it is cranking out 35.5 horse, a 66 is only supposed to be around 21. I was the happiest kid you had ever seen the that day. Then this last winter I bought a nice 66 hydraulic unit for 310 dollars. Then 2 weeks ago I bought an Oliver model 18 combine for 100 dollars. It needs alot of sheetmetal work because it didnt get cleaned out after it was used 15 years ago then it got stuffed in a fence row but if it says Oliver on it I aint gonna let it die that way. Hopefully I can have it done and useable by the end of the summer though. Then me and the 66 will have a new toy to play with. If you have any advice about the combine or know of any good parts for one please let me know my e-mail is oliverkid@sbcglobal.net oliverkid, MI, entered 2009-06-20 My Email Address: Not Displayed |

Chores - by Frank Young. The ceaseless passing of time! It is at once our friend and our enemy. It measures our progress and it makes us old. Like most features of our life, few things are all good or all bad, and most such judgments depend on our own perspective or viewpoint. In our particular hobby, we enjoy the nostalgic return to the days of our youth as we recreate many of the scenes that took place on the family farm that served as the stage for the first few acts of the play that is our live
