Second hand information gleaned from years of Hot Rod Magazine: I recall an article from around '64 (?) that said that alternators are not the best in low speed applications. The new generation of "one wire" GM alternators are supposed to be better. I've been told that an alternator needs to be revved up once in a while to "excite" the diodes etc .Hope this helps, Me (Maybe I should try turning my wife at high speed once in a while...)
