Greg,

It sounds like you have a very uneven area to cut, but if you will elevate the lift arms of the 8N so that the front of the deck is about 4 inches higher than the back, the bush hog should not dig into the ground. The back of the bush hog will do the final cut to length that you have selected by the height of the rear wheel. If the top link connection is a slot so that the bush hog can follow the terrain, you shouldn't have any trouble. You also may not have the check chains or side stabilizers tight enough to prevent the bush hog from drifting left or right of center of the tractor.
