: : : : When I run my 9n, the exhause manafold gets glowing red. Is this normal? If not how can I correct it? Any help is appreciated.

: It is typical for the exhaust manifold on a heavy duty engine to become hot enough to change color. This is especially true when the engine has been under a continuous heavy load, such as when plowing or discing. The color change is very noticeable after dark - I can remember my father returning from the fields on a JD520, and the glow from the manifold was visible from several hundred yards.

I agree. Under heavy load they will get quite red. I've spent a lot of time on a Farmall M and a Super M plowing after dark when the manifold, exhaust pipe, and muffler were all glowing red. The M was especially prone to this. With the tractor lights off and plowing by moonlight, you could actually see the baffle outlines inside the muffler! The fact that it was turning considerably more than stock rpm's probably contributed to this.
