: I just discovered that both rear tire rims are rotting away on my old tractor, around the valve stems. I suspect it was caused by a leak of fluid from the stem at one point, although both tires are holding pressure just fine. One of the rusted/rotted spots is so big, (about 1"x2") that I can poke my finger in and push the tube itself. Question: Do the rims need to be replaced or can they be welded in some way?

: Ken
I saved a set of rims on my 8n by welding a patch over the rust hole and drilling a new
stem hole at a different location. I used another rusted rim to cut out a section from
bead to bead, and MIG welded on. The rim was cleaned up and I used one of those rust
conversion coatings to seal it up before painting. It has held for 5 years now, however
did not put fluid back in when we remounted the tires, and the tractor is only used for
light work. On my working tractor, I sprung for the new rims.
